The Kearsley Board of Education is a 7-person elected body that serves the Kearlsey School District, this year marked the expiration of the 6-year term for 2 seats on the Board of Education. Incumbent School Board President Richard Hill is vying for a sixth term in office, having served on the board since 1995. Fellow Incumbent Dr. Charles Wade is seeking a second term, winning his first term in 2018, others on the ticket include Class of 2010 alumni Kevin Brown and Kearsley Vocal Music Booster President Maureen Callahan.
Maureen Callahan and Richard Hill are running a joint campaign, and residents throughout the district are displaying signs advertising the two. Dean Wade had signs throughout the district, too. Kevin Brown ran a small and albeit quiet campaign.
The election occurred on November 5th, 2024, and Maureen Callahan and Richard Hill received 3,855 and 3,298 votes, respectively, to win the two seats.
The Kearsley Eclipse contacted the Callahan/Hill Campaign to receive comments on the victory. Mr.Hill responded to the Eclipse’s request for comment saying:
“Mrs. Callahan and I worked very hard and were fortunate to earn the voter’s trust. For me, I really enjoy working with all Kearsley Staff members, Parents and Students to make Kearsley a School of choice. The Kearsley Community is my home and where all the Hill Family graduated from. I will continue to work hard with Staff members and my team mates to provide opportunities for our Students.”
School-Board Elect Callahan also provided a responded to the Eclipses’ request for comment saying:
“I am incredibly honored to have been chosen by the community to serve on the board and deeply grateful for this opportunity. I would like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support and to also extend special appreciation to Richard Hill for his invaluable guidance and collaboration throughout the campaign. As I step into this role, I am fully committed to making Kearsley a destination district for both families and staff. My goal is to work diligently to ensure that every student and staff member has access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Guided by my experiences as both a parent and educator, I will make every decision with a thoughtful approach while recognizing the importance of adapting to our ever-changing world, providing safe and welcoming environments, and maintaining fiscal responsibility for our district. I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members and administration to support our students, staff, families, and community. Thank you once again to the Kearsley community, I’m excited to get to work!”
