The homecoming dance is a cherished tradition here at Kearsley High School. It is a way for our students to come together and celebrate our school spirit.
Student council prepares for the homecoming dance weeks in advance, participating in various preparation activities. Decorating the hallways and gym, selling tickets, and organizing the events are all tedious activities that are crucial to making the homecoming dance run smoothly.
Ava Salem, 12, a member of student council, explained, “setting up for the homecoming dance was definitely a little bit stressful, but it was really fun and everything came out really well.” Salem continued, “everyone had very different ideas, but we put all of them together so we had one very nice and coherent theme.” The decorations changed the entire atmosphere of our school, transforming the gym and hallways into real-life board games.
The night of the dance makes all of the long hours of hard work worth it. Students arrived in their best attire as the yearbook staff snapped pictures to capture memories. The DJ played popular songs per request, as well as line dances that everyone participated in together. Owen Aikaman, 12, explained his homecoming experience. “My favorite song they played was First Day Out, by Tee Grizzley. Everybody was so hyped after a major homecoming football game win the night before.” As a school, we danced for three hours straight alongside friends and staff and ended the night with an annual slow song for the couples. “The dance was super fun and the decorations looked so cute. Compared to previous years, there was a really great turnout with a lot of people and I’m glad I went.” Sarah Chambers, 11, expressed.
The homecoming dance not only gives students a memorable experience but also brings our school together, creating a sense of unity and togetherness.
