Friday, October 7th Kearsley’s Varsity Football Team and Varsity Cheerleaders started homecoming day with a visit to Weston, Dowdall, and Feidler, Kearsley’s elementary schools.
Each student got to meet the Varsity Cheer Squad and Varsity Football Team. The students also got to hang out with the school mascot, Buzz.
The cheerleaders performed the cheers; Hey Fans Let’s Have Some Fun, Blue Forever, Hey Everybody Fire Up, and Come On Crowd Let’s Get Loud, while the students followed along.
Reporters asked junior, Josey Janiga how it made her feel getting to cheer with the kids. “I was really happy because I felt like a big role model to the kids getting them just as excited for homecoming as we are,” she exclaimed.
Janiga was then asked what her favorite cheer to do with the kids was. “My favorite cheer was Blue Forever because it was the last cheer that I did, so I told the kids that they need to be as loud as they had been all day,” vocalized Janiga.
After the cheerleaders were done cheering with the kids, it was the football team’s turn to talk with the kids and get them excited for the homecoming football game.
Junior football player, Owen Aikmen stated his favorite parts about the assembly. “Having the microphone in hand and talking to the kids. Also getting to see my brother and walk the halls that I used to walk,” he expressed.
Senior football player, Julienne Brandt was also a huge part of the assembly. Brandt encouraged the kids to come watch his team play and he got the kids very excited for the homecoming game.
Reporters asked Brandt what he did at the assembly to get to kids excited and here’s what he had to say; “I just gave high fives, made the kids feel welcomed, and asked them to come to the game and to the parade.”
Brandt then told reporters his favorite part about the assembly, “definitely seeing all their faces with their smiles when they seen us in our jerseys.”
The football team and cheerleaders handed out coupons that the kids could use at the tailgate for a free treat! This led to a very big turnout during the parade, tailgate, and football game. It ended up being an amazing homecoming. On top of that, the Kearsley Hornets won the game 15-7 against Linden!
