The school year has just started and students are not just returning to a new year but also to a whole new set of rules.
Last year the board decided to change a lot of things that you could see throughout the hallways. Students can no longer have a phone on them in class due to cheating, as well as the number of kids not passing their classes because they are not fully paying attention in class.
Phones are not the only rule that is changing at the high school, students are also not allowed to have backpacks in class. Students must go to their lockers before class and get their materials.
Kearsley has always had a dress code, but it is being enforced a lot more. Hoods are not allowed because it is a safety issue. If the office is looking for a student, they must be able to see everyone’s face.
The same old “revealing” dress code is still to be followed. For instance, no crop tops or short shorts should be worn no matter the weather.
A lot of students have stated they have a lot of mixed emotions towards the rules.
“I kind of like the no phone rule because I feel like it makes people talk more in class,” stated senior, Kyle Owens.
Another senior, Mady Bailey said, “I don’t like the phone rule just because I feel like if I have to turn in assignments with pictures on Google Classroom, I have to use my phone to insert them, and it is hard to use my Chromebook,” she explained.
We also have new police officers inside of the school. They are there for our protection, but they also will be giving out fines to students caught vaping or smoking inside of school. This fine is 100 dollars.
“I feel that no one should be vaping at school and everyone knows that, but they still do so I think maybe the fine will help slow down the vaping,” said sophomore, Jade Fuller.
Overall the students at KHS have many new opinions based on these rules.
“The hallways are so crowded with everyone at their lockers and so it makes it hard to get to class. I also sometimes have a hard time unlocking my locker which causes me to be late so I’m kind of annoyed about the no backpacks,” exclaimed freshman, Elliona Campbell.
The rules are going to take a minute to get used to, but once we see the ups and downs things might change, as of right now the rules are to be followed.
