After spring break, confusion and surprise swept across students as they saw an empty wall where the Hall of Fame used to be.

However, on April 14 the wall was back in place, looking like it had never disappeared.

How did the wall mysteriously disappear and then reappear? Keep reading to find the answer.

Athletics Director Paul Gaudard organized the plans for the wall.

“Last year, we inducted our inaugural Kearsley Community Schools Hall of Fame class and wanted to display the inductees in a special way,” Gaudard said. “I had seen some similar murals at other schools and at Michigan State, and thought it would be a great addition to the halls of KHS.”

In November, the mural was put up by Skyline Outdoor of Lansing, costing the school about $4,000. It was paid for by extra funds from the Class of 2014.

The mural is basically a sticker cut into sections. In order for the sticker to adhere to the brick wall, it needs to be heated using a special tool.

When the mural was first put up, the company overheated the first section of the mural, causing it to bubble and burn. It was not noticeable at first, but students began to peel it.

Because the bubbles were the company’s fault, it agreed to fix it during spring break at their own expense.

The original plan was to take down the first section of the mural and put a new one up that was made of a slightly heavier vinyl.

However, the new section did not quite match the rest of the mural. The words and pictures did not line up correctly.

Because of this mistake, the company decided to take the entire mural down and start fresh, but it ran out of time during spring break. That is why the wall was blank when students came back from vacation.

In the beginning of April, the mural was put back on the wall.

Senior Karina Lewis likes the mural.

“I think it’s really cool,” Lewis said. “It’s better than having just a blank wall.”
