The USFL inaugural draft was one for the books
February 22, 2022 was the first night of the inaugural draft for the newly revived United States Football League (USFL).
The USFL is made up of 8 teams and broke up between two divisions, the North and South.
In the South we have Birmingham Stallions (coached by Skip Holtz), the Houston Gamblers (coached by Kevin Sullum), the New Orleans Breakers (led by Larry Fedora), and to end out the South we have the Tampa Bay Bandits (coached by Todd Haley).
In the North we have the Michigan Panthers (with Jeff Fisher), the New Jersey Generals (with Mike Riley), the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars (led by Bart Andrus), and the Pittsburgh Maulers (coached by Kirby Wilson).
Rounds 1-12 took place on Tuesday starting off with the quarterback round.
The USFL will officially kick off with week one starting on Saturday April, 16th. Game one will be New Jersey visiting Birmingham at 7:30 p.m. I personally don’t know why there is a “home” and “away” team as every game will be in the same stadium this year.
We will continue week one on Sunday as Houston will visit Michigan in the 12:00 match-up.
Philadelphia will be playing New Orleans after that game finishes at 4:00.
To round up week one of the inaugural season, Pittsburgh will be hosting Tampa Bay at 8:00.
Week one will be restarting many rivalries from the old USFL which should be fun to watch. This also gives those of us who loves to watch football all year long something to enjoy before the new NFL season starts up.
Personally I can’t wait to see how they implement new rules and game styles. I also love to see how this will become a second chance for players who couldn’t quite make it in the past.
