Warmer weather brings threats to the road

A lot of people think that when warm weather comes, threats on the road disappear. However, road threats are a year-round concern.

Winter roads pose threats such as black ice, snow, slush, and overly-cautious drivers — yes, overly-cautious behavior can threaten others on the road.

However, when the snow melts and the sun comes out, there is a whole new group of threats, especially for young drivers who are less experienced with handling stressful driving situations.

One of the largest threats is rain.

Some people do not see rain as a threat, but the truth is that rain can cause a lot of problems on the road, such as hydroplaning, if drivers are not cautious.

Hydroplaning is when the tires on a car do not grip the road properly, driving on top of the water instead of the road, causing cars to slide and to sometimes spin out of control.

The rain can make the road lines hard to see, and on occasion it can make other cars hard to see as well.

Rain can also fog up your windshield, blurring your road vision.

After the rain is gone, fog may appear, making the roads and other cars almost impossible to see.

When driving in the fog, it is best to keep your headlights on, your brights off, and your driving slow and cautious.

Another threat when warm weather comes is other drivers.

When the snow melts, drivers may drive more recklessly because the threat of sliding is almost gone.

Watch out for drivers who drive over the speed limit and run red lights and stop signs. Keep an even sharper eye out for drivers who may have road rage.

Road rage can be a serious threat. Many people suffer from it, regardless of whether they know it or not.

Road rage is defined by Google as “violent anger caused by the stress and frustration involved in driving a motor vehicle in difficult conditions.”

When you are driving in front of someone with road rage, and they are riding the bumper of your car or swerving behind you, the best thing to do is to pull over to the side of the road and let them pass you.

There is no way to prevent drivers from getting road rage, but there are ways you can keep yourself safe.

One thing that comes out with the warm weather are motorcycles. Sometimes motorcyclists can be one of the most dangerous things to face on the road.

Motorcycles are small and hard to see if they are driving in front of cars. Since they are small, it can sometimes be hard to gauge how fast they are going.

If you pull out in front of a motorcycle, and they are going faster than you had expected, that can be a very dangerous situation.

Motorcyclists may have to stop quickly, which can cause them to lose control of their bikes.

Crashes on motorcycles are much more fatal than crashes in cars due to the fact that motorcycles do not have anything protecting their riders from the fall.

Motorcyclists also ride in groups, and sometimes two ride side-by-side on the road.

Watch out for motorcyclists; be courteous and share the road with them.

Warm weather poses a lot more threats on the road than most people think.

Just be sure to watch out. Identify threats to keep yourself and other drivers safe.
