Senior Shawn Larsen and Holly senior Scottie Brauher, players of KBH United, both earned an All-State honorable mention in Division 1.

“I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishment,” Mr. Steve Yuchasz, the KBH hockey coach, said. “This is only the second time in my coaching career that I have even nominated anyone for All-State. When you consider that after I nominate them, other coaches then vote for them, it is huge.”

Not satisfied with his play this year, Larsen believes that he could have done better to earn his All-State distinction.

Larsen plans to continue with hockey through college.

“Shawn is one of the top-scoring threats in our sport,” Yuchasz said. “He has all the tools, and I would not be surprised to see him on the ice at the next level.”

Larsen and Brauher are the only players on the team to earn All-State honors, but some players did earn awards from the Flint Metro League.

Junior Kross Kenny and Larsen made first-team All-League at forward, and Holly junior Jesse Zorn and senior Evan Flood received honorable mention All-League at forward.

Senior Steven Niles picked up first-team honors for defense, and Brauher earned second-team All-League for defense.

“Scottie switched to defense part way through the season to help the team,” Yuchasz said. “He is a scoring threat and a big physical presence for us on the blue line. Nobody competes harder in our zone to keep the puck out of our end.”

Holly sophomore Connor Martin was honored as first-team All-League in the goal.
