Tennis defeats two league opponents, loses to one

The tennis team defeated two league opponents and lost to one last week.

The tennis team had a back-to-back match on Wednesday, April 24, defeating Fenton and falling short to Holly.

With a record of 9-4-1 overall, senior Mickeely Dias is proud of her team’s accomplishments so far in the season.

“(It feels) amazing,” Dias said. “We are finally getting recognized for winning and we have one of the best records of all of the spring sports.”

The Hornets are 3-1 in the league and will be in action again Monday, April 30, against Lapeer.

Fenton

The Hornets beat the Tigers 7-1.

Winning their singles matches were seniors Stephanie Lane, Valerie Entenmann, and Chloe Clarambeau.

At No. 1 singles, Lane swept her opponent 6-4, 6-2.

Entenmann defeated her opponent at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-4.

Clarambeau outscored her opponent 6-1, 6-0.

Junior Jillian Locke, at No.4 singles, fell short to her opponent by a slim margin after playing three long sets.

The Hornets swept all their doubles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, seniors Mickeely Dias and Brooklyn Smith beat their opponents in three matches, losing the first 3-6 but taking the next two 6-4, 7-5.

Senior Giulia Amato and sophomore Jacqueline Olivo, No. 2 doubles, secured a win against their opponents 7-5, 6-3.

The No. 3 doubles pair, seniors Ellena Dye and Ariel Desjardins, defeated their opponent 6-0, 6-3.

Junior Kasey Palmer and senior Briahna Greer beat their opponents with two sets of 6-2.

Holly

The Hornets lost to the Bronchos in their second match of the day.

The only winner was Clarambeau at No. 3 singles.

Clarambeau won 5-0 after her opponent sustained an injury.

The team lost all of its double matches.

Brandon 

The Hornets visited the Blackhawks on Thursday, April 25, winning 8-0.

Kearsley glided through the singles and doubles flights.

Lane, No. 1 singles, aced her opponent with two sets of 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, Entenmann outscored her opponent 6-2, 6-0.

Clarambeau swept her opponent with two sets of 6-0.

In her first singles match of the season at No. 4 singles, junior Kennedy Bostwick defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Dias and Smith won 7-5, 6-4.

Amato and Jones, No. 2 doubles, swept their opponents 6-3, 6-0.

At No. 3 doubles,  Desjardins and Dye won 6-1, 6-0.

Palmer and Greer, No. 4 doubles pair, sailed past their opponents with two sets of 6-0.
