Tennis wins dual meets, loses tournament

The tennis team enjoys dinner together while competing at the Twin Bay Quad Tournament in Traverse City, Saturday, April 20.

The tennis team lost in the Twin Bay Quad Tournament but won matches against Flint Southwestern and Owosso by scores of 8-0 in each event within the last week.

The Hornets will be in action again at home against Fenton and Holly on Wednesday, April 25.

Twin Bay Quad

Even though the team lost the Twin Bay Quad tournament on Saturday, April 20, Coach Cory Fisher said the tournament went great.

“It was a great experience,” Fisher said. “I thought our girls played with a lot of effort.”

Petoskey and Grand Rapids swept the team in the tournament in Traverse City.

The girls lost all their singles matches as well as their doubles matches.

Senior Gulia Amato said the meet was difficult but fun.

“It was very difficult because the other teams were so good,” Amato said. “Me and my partner played good, but the other schools were hard to play.”

Flint Southwestern

The tennis team aced Flint Southwestern on Monday, April 22.

Winning in singles competition were seniors Stephanie Lane, Chloe Clarambeau, Briahna Greer, and Valerie Entenmann.

Lane outscored her No. 1 singles opponent by two sets of 6-0.

Clarambeau swept her opponent in the N0. 2 singles flight.

Greer played No. 3 singles and closed out her opponent in two matches.

At No. 4 singles, Entenmann beat her opponent in both matches.

The Hornets won all their doubles matches.

The No. 1 doubles team of junior Jillian Locke and senior Allison Depottey aced their opponents 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, juniors Samantha Timm and Shelby Cranmer defeated their opponents with two sets of 6-0.

Junior Kasey Palmer and sophomore Megan Timm beat their opponents 6-0, 6-1.

Seniors Giulia Amato and Emily Jones swept their opponents in two matches.

Owosso

The tennis team beat the Trojans on Tuesday, April 23.

Winning their single matches were Lane, Entenmann, Clarambeau, and sophomore Jacqueline Olivo.

Lane beat her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

Entenmann outscored her opponent 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Clarambeau swept her opponent 6-0 and 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

Olivo defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-2.

The Hornets also won all their doubles matches.

The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Mickeely Dias and Brooklyn Smith aced their opponents with two sets of 6-0.

Amato and Jones beat their opponents 6-3, 6-0.

Seniors Ariel Desjardins and Ellena Dye, the No. 3 doubles pair, beat their opponents with two sets of 6-3.

Palmer and Greer swept their opponent with two sets of 6-1.
