Students and staff believe health is important everyday, not just for World Health day, which falls on Sunday, April 7

Being healthy leads to living a happy life. Not only is physical health important, but it’s also essential to take care of your mental health.

Sunday, April 7, marks World Health Day.

The holiday spreads awareness about health care, global health, and working conditions.

World Health Day was founded by the World Health Organization in 1950.

Every year WHO holds events to help spread awareness of how important health is. WHO comes up with a different theme each year and gives information about certain health topics.

WHO has sponsored events where it talked about health issues like depression, food safety, hospitals, motherhood, road safety, and climate change.

Mrs. Graham, health teacher, said that it is important to stay active to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Some tips for keeping your health in check would be to do something each day to improve your health,” Graham said. “Even if it’s something small, like going for a walk.”

Sophomore Dillian Wilder said mental health should be a priority.

“Health day is important because if your mental or physical health is down, it can cause severe damage to your mind and body,” Wilder said. “Some main focuses on health would be dieting and certain disorders like depression and anxiety.”

Graham said people should be concerned with their health every day.

“The WHO is focusing on access to health care,” Graham said. “I think individuals should focus on their own health and make steps to improve it.”
