Bowling teams shoot well at the Ike Eisenhower Doubles Tournament
On Feb. 8 the girls’ and boys’ bowling teams traveled to Sterling Heights to bowl in the Ike Eisenhower Doubles Tournament. The tournament is very competitive as it brings Division 1 and 2 schools together to compete.
The tournament brings schools from across the state and fills the more-than-80-lane bowling center.
For the qualifying part of the tournament, each partner bowled three individual games plus two baker games. During baker games one partner starts the first game and then the other partner starts the second game.
The Hornets had eight teams at the tournament; seven made it to the match-play round. On the boys’ side they cut to the top 32 teams, and for the girls they cut to the top 24 teams. The following teams qualified for the cut:
Boys –
- Junior Chad Stephen and Senior Anthony Kelley placed 10th with a 1,689 series.
- Senior Ben Roof and Senior KC O’Brien tied for 17th with a 1,659 series.
- Senior Brandon Richard and Senior Lucas Schofield tied for 17th with a 1,659 series.
Girls –
- Junior Alexxa Flood and Senior Dani Doolan placed second with a 1,738 series.
- Junior Hannah Ploof and Senior Kayla Emmendorfer placed third with a 1,690 series.
- Senior Teagan MacDonald and Senior Haleigh Rybka placed eighth with a 1,542 series.
- Senior Morgan Stephan and Freshman Emma Boychuk placed 12th with a 1,442 series.
In the first round of match play the boys had some close matches. Stephen and Kelley faced the 22nd seed from Dakota and lost with games of 193 and 202 to 220 and 213. Roof and O’Brien shot games of 175, 201, and 195 against the 16th seed from Stevenson, who shot games of 197, 181, and 236. Richard and Schofield shot games of 227 and 170 against the 15th seed from Eisenhower, who shot games of 234 and 174.
All of the boys’ teams were knocked out in the first round.
The girls had a great showing in match play.
One team went out in the first round of match play. Stephen and Boychuk lost, shooting games of 167, 186, and 166 against the 12th seed from Dakota, who shot 169, 143, and 181.
In the semi finals, three of the six teams were from Kearsley. Two of the teams faced each other in this round.
Flood and Doolan lost with games of 152 and 204 against MacDonald and Rybka, who shot games of 212 and 233. Flood and Doolan took fourth place.
The final match was a one-game match in which the highest game took first place. Senior Brooklyn Greene and sophomore Taylor Davis from Davison defeated Ploof and Emmendorfer 235-214.
MacDonald and Rybka finished in third place.
The bowling teams were not disappointed with their showing at the tournament. All of the partners performed well and the tournament was good practice for the upcoming state regional and final tournaments.
