Tennis ties with Goodrich, loses to TC Central
Tennis balls were flying at the tennis team’s last home match on Friday, May 4.
Winds were up to 30 mph when the Hornets had to compete not only with Goodrich but also Traverse City Central.
Kearsley and the Martians played to a 4-4 tie.
Winning for the Hornets were No. 1 singles junior Stephanie Lane; No. 1 doubles team junior Brooklynn Smith and senior Hannah Hendley; No. 2 doubles team of juniors Mickeely Dias and Emily Jones; and the No. 4 doubles team of juniors Briahna Greer and Macie Godfrey.
Lane won her singles match 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, junior Claudia Moore, lost 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, junior Chloe Clarambeau, lost 7-6 (7), 6-2.
Finally, No. 4 singles senior Brooke Mannor lost 6-3, 6-3.
The doubles flights had better luck.
Smith and Hendley won their match 6-3, 7-6 (3). Dias and Jones also won their match 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 3 doubles, senior Mallory Teed and sophomore Kasey Palmer were defeated 6-2, 6-4.
Greer and Godfrey won their match with a perfect score 6-0, 6-0.
Traverse City Central
After competing against Goodrich, the Hornets went head-to-head with Traverse City Central.
The Hornets lost to the Trojans 8-0.
Lane lost her singles match 6-0, 6-0, Moore also lost 6-0, 6-0.
Senior Gabby Green played her first singles match on varsity at No. 3, but she lost 6-0, 6-0.
Mannor was also defeated in her match 6-1, 6-0.
Matches didn’t go so well for the Kearsley’s doubles teams either.
Smith and Hendley gained the most points for the Hornets but lost 6-2, 6-0.
Dias and Jones were defeated 6-0, 6-0. Teed and Palmer, lost 6-1, 6-0.
Greer and Godfrey also lost, ending their match 6-0, 6-0.
