Five tips for students: Make school easier to handle
For all students school can be difficult, especially with endless stacks of homework and relentless amounts of stress.
Here are five tips to reduce stress and make school more manageable.
Don’t procrastinate
Let’s face it, it’s hard to find motivation to get assignments done, but it’s even harder when you have pushed your list of things to the last minute.
For me, I find it more stressful to push assignments to the back burner.
Find time, get it done, then you’ll feel more relieved. I promise.
Senior Rayiona Braziel struggles with this herself.
“This happens every single time I am assigned a task,” Braziel said. “It stresses me out, but in the end I always get it figured out.”
Get enough sleep
It is hard to function to get normal tasks done, let alone think and be productive on a few hours of sleep.
Studies show that getting enough sleep is healthier on the body.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s study shows that not getting enough sleep can mess up the the body’s sleep-wake rhythm — our body’s daily sleep pattern controlled by it’s circadian rhythm. This could make you feel more sleep deprived than you actually are.
Create a sleep schedule and stick to it. You’ll notice a change of how you function during the day.
Senior Marcelles Keaton thinks getting enough sleep is beneficial, as well.
“Getting enough sleep is probably the best thing because if you don’t get enough energy, you will experience a loss of energy,” Keaton said. “Plus, you’ll feel unmotivated and that doesn’t help anything.”
Get a calendar
With six different classes, it can be challenging to keep track of homework and assignments.
Getting a planner or a calendar can definitely help with that.
You will be able to plan out your weeks to establish a set schedule, which will help with time management.
If it’s used right, you will never have to worry about missing another assaignment again.
Stay focused
It is really easy to let outside events affect your academic career.
Evaluate your outside situations and figure out what you can or cannot change.
If you can change the issue, change it as soon as possible. If you can’t, push it out of your mind and focus on your schooling.
When you come to class, be ready to learn and leave the drama for your llama.
Find time to spend time with friends
Spending quality time with friends can be an easy way to relieve the stress.
So plan time with friends outside of school and do things the group enjoys.
You will feel more relaxed and be able to handle anything that comes your way.
Senior Rachel Miller believes that spending time with friends is therapeutic.
“Spending time with friends is a way to release negative energy and have a break from reality,” Miller said.
