Celebrate Earth Day at For-Mar
We live on it, breathe its air, and eat the food and drink the water it provides us.
Earth is the planet we inhabit, and we often take it for granted.
We mistreat our forests, bodies of water, and land.
Trees and many other plants suffer from our mistreatment of the planet, too.
Without trees, we would not be able to live.
Each day, we breathe in the air provided by trees.
The trees that emit oxygen are rooted in the soil of the earth and are nourished by the natural rainfall that occurs in the atmosphere.
Without Earth, we would not have the force for life.
Taking care of the our planet has never been a more critical message to spread.
On Earth Day, which is Sunday, April 22, it is crucial to celebrate the planet that gives us our home.
For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum celebrates Earth day on Saturday, April 21, by inviting people of all abilities to join in activities that show appreciation to Earth.
For-Mar will be hosting an event from noon to 3 p.m., free of charge, with no required registration. However, confirmation in participation is encouraged by calling For-Mar at (810) 789-8568.
People from age 8 and up are encouraged to bring their own gloves and take part in cleaning up the gardens.
No experience is required for this event.
Junior Abbigale Bellmer recognizes how important taking care of Earth is and encourages others to be aware, as well.
“People take it for granted, and they don’t understand that if we don’t take care of it, we won’t have anywhere to live,” Bellmer said.
Litter and pollution continue to hurt our home and only humans are at fault.
Some people may want to celebrate in a more intimate way.
For these people, Earth Day can also be celebrated in simpler ways.
One way could be going for a walk.
Walking is not only a way to get in some exercise, but it is also a great way to get out and appreciate what Earth has to offer.
Being aware of all that Earth provides, such as shelter, air, food, and beauty, is a great way to connect with nature.
Planting a flower or tree is also a great way to celebrate Earth.
Flowers and trees are a part of the food chain, and many insects and animals depend on them for food and shelter.
By planting something this Earth Day, we can give back to the planet that provides us with a home.
