Two choirs advanced to the state festival

Kearsley’s three advanced choirs attended festivals on March 15 and 16.

The A Cappella choir was the first of the three choirs to perform.

The choir sang two different music compositions consisting of “Swingin’ Sweet Chariot” and “Irish Blessing.”

They received a 71 out of 90 points in their performance.

They also competed with sight reading and received a 27 out of 30, even with a few minor mistakes.

Altogether they received a 106 out of 120, which is an excellent score, qualifying them for the state festival.

Senior Elise Pariseau believes that the choir did well even though they made a few mistakes.

“I think we performed well even though sight reading wasn’t our best,” Elise said. “We still scored better than I predicted.”

Pariseau believes the choir has skills to improve.

“We could have worked more on our tone quality in our performance,” Elise said. “We also could have worked on our sight reading skills because we can always improve.”

Melody Makers was the second choir to perform at the festival. They sang with the A Cappella choir first, and then brought two of their own selections.

They competed with “ll est be et bon” and “O Occhi Manza Mia” as their selections.

They competed in sight reading, as well, and did a great job.

Melody Makers received a 96 out of 120 as their overall score.

Melody Makers’ score is considered to be excellent. They also qualified for the state festival.

Senior Lauren Pariseau believes Melody Makers did well, but can always do better.

“We did good. I think there is always room to improve, though,” Lauren said. “We can always do better than we did.”

She believes they could have worked more on blending and working together.

“To improve as a whole, we need all of our voices to work together as one and blend together,” Lauren said.

The Treble Singers were the last of the choirs to perform, and they competed on Friday, March 16.

They sang “Ally Bally” and “Bee Butter Milk.”

They received a high score, but did not qualify for the state fesitval.

The choir did well for being an all-female choir.

Senior Makayla Randol believes the choir did OK but could have done better.

“The performance was nice,” Randol said. “The sight reading was not.”

She believes the rhythms could have been greatly improved with practice.

“We could have studied the rhythms a lot more than we did,” Randol said.
