Too many snow days shortens spring break

Due to the excessive amount of snow days Kearsley has had this year, the school district was forced to shorten spring break to three days.

Many students and their families were looking forward to a full week of time off of school to relax and take a break from school work.

Sophomore Elizabeth Taylor and her family had their family vacation planned out for about four months now.

“I’m very upset about the shortened break,” Taylor said. “I was really looking forward to going on a vacation with my family and getting away from school for a couple of days.”

Many families have already planned vacations for spring break, rather it is somewhere tropical or somewhere just out of town.

Vacations of any kind tend to be expensive, especially when you plan them months in advance, so canceling last minute will result in a major loss of money for families.

Taylor’s mom spent over $1,000 on their trip and will not be able to get a refund of any kind.

Since spring break is being cut short to three days, Taylor is no longer able to go on vacation since it would result in her missing a few days of school.

“We had planned on going to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for five days and staying in a cabin in the mountains,” Taylor said. “We also planned on going to Chattanooga to go sightseeing while we were there. My mom had a whole itinerary planned out for this trip.”

More than likely, Taylor and her family will not be the only ones losing money from this shortened break.

Any family who has planned a vacation for the normal extended break will also take the backlash in some type of financial loss.
