Senior couples not sure where they and their relationships will go after high school
The halls of KHS are no strangers to relationships. Couples roam the halls daily.
However, with graduation just around the corner, some seniors have high hopes for where their relationships will go after high school.
Senior Samantha Redick has been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, senior KC O’Brien, since January 2013.
“I met him at an all-nighter for church in November (2012),” Redick said. “We had a lot in common, like we both bowl, and God plays a big part in both of our lives.”
Redick considers herself to be in love with O’Brien.
“To be in love means that you would do anything for that person and you know they would do the same for you,” Redick said.
O’Brien shares the same feelings for Redick; however, he has a different perception of what love is.
“It means to share something with someone that you cannot express with words, so I can’t really explain it,” O’Brien said.
O’Brien never expected to have feelings for Redick.
“It’s funny because I wasn’t (attracted to her) at first. One of my friends bet me to ask her out, if he asked out her friend,” O’Brien said. “So I did, even though he never held up his end of the deal. But here we are, happy as can be, two years later.”
Although O’Brien and Redick see each other in their futures, they have a different idea of where their futures are going.
Redick is considering Cedarville University in Ohio as a top choice for college; however, she has not yet made a decision on what college she will attend.
Redick is sure that O’Brien will stand by whatever decision she makes regarding her future.
“In the future, we will be married and have kids, and we’ll be happy,” Redick said. “I don’t plan my future with KC in mind because I know he will support wherever I go and whatever I decide to do. I don’t know where my future takes me, but I know he will be there wherever I am.”
O’Brien does not have the same future in mind, but would sacrifice anything for Redick.
“I don’t know where our future is going,” O’Brien said. “We’ll probably be married with a couple of kids that I don’t really want. But happy wife, happy life.”
Although Redick does not keep O’Brien in mind when planning her future, he keeps her in mind while planning his.
“I’m sad that she is considering moving away, but I’ll still be here no matter what,” O’Brien said.
Another senior couple also is not sure where their relationship will end up.
Senior Madison Beall has been dating her boyfriend, senior Tyler Gagne, for a little over one year.
“I knew him because we had classes together sophomore year and he was friends with some of my friends,” Beall said. “But we didn’t start talking until the first day of junior year.”
Beall was first attracted to Gagne’s eyes; whereas, Gagne was first attracted to how similar he and Beall were.
“She shares my sense of humor,” Gagne said. “I just kind of started to like her one day.”
Although both Gagne and Beall consider themselves to be in love, neither of them have a clear idea of what being in love means.
“I think love has a lot to do with how committed you are to the person you claim to love,” Gagne said.
Beall is still trying to figure out what she thinks it means to be in love.
“It probably means that everything you do is to make you and the other person happy,” Beall said. “I really don’t know.”
Like Redick, Gagne has considered moving out of state and away from his significant other for college.
“I definitely plan my future with her in my mind, but I’m still waiting to find out where my future is going,” Gagne said.
Beall is still unsure where she and Gagne will end up.
“I could see myself marrying Tyler,” Beall said. “But I’m not quite sure where our future will go.”
