Wrestling beats Clio, Swartz Creek, improves league record

The wrestling team faced off against Clio and Swartz Creek  on Wednesday, Jan. 31, and took the win for both matches. The Hornets beat the Mustangs 53-36 and the Dragons 45-36 at Clio.

The teams double winners were freshman Jason Judd, sophomores La’Ron Ruffin, Trenton DiGenova, and John Brown, and junior Machai Garza.

These matches helped the Hornets improve their league record to 4-4, and they will compete in the Flint Metro League wrestling championship at Holly High School on Saturday, Feb. 3.

There are four returning wrestlers who placed in the league last season. These wrestlers are seniors Malik Davis and Andy Ruhstorfer and sophomores Ruffin and Tyler Byczynski.

Davis was first in the league last season at the 152-pound weight division, but he sustained an injury during a match this year and will not be competing at the league championship. Davis is planning to return to action in the state tournament.

The remaining three all placed third place in the league with Byczynski at 135, Ruhstorfer at 125, and Ruffin at 103.
