Girls bowling wins showdown with Owosso, blanks Fenton

The girls bowling team competed for first place against Owosso in a Metro League showdown.

It was fierce competition, Saturday, Jan. 20, with the Hornets ranked first in the state and Owosso, ranked third.

In addition, going into the match, Kearsley sat one match ahead of the Trojans in the league.

The Hornets started out strong with a Baker game of 235 to Owosso’s 174, but the Trojans didn’t let up in the second round of Baker games.

Owosso won the second game 179-165. This left the match 6-4 in Kearsley’s favor.

The first individual game stunned the Hornets with Owosso’s 896 victory.

Beginning the second individual game, the Trojans held a three-point match lead, 11-8, but the Hornets didn’t give up.

The Hornets prevailed in the last game with a 912 actual to Owosso’s 703.

The total pinfall was Kearsley’s 2,200 to Owosso’s 1,952, leaving the Hornets victorious with the final score 19-11.

Fenton

After beating the Trojans, the Hornets moved on to compete against Fenton.

The Hornets won this match 30-0, which marked the 98th consecutive league victory in a span of nine years.

The match began with Baker games of 134 and 172 to Fenton’s 114 and 126, which gave the Hornets a 10-0 lead going into the individual games.

The first individual game the Hornets had a 1,004 team game to the Tiger’s 654. The final individual score, 1,111, was the third highest team game in the state so far this season.

Senior Barbara Hawes led the Hornets with games of 203 and 280, along with junior Alexis Roof, who shot a 213 and 253

The total final pinfall was Kearsley’s 2,421 to Fenton’s 1,584.

The next competition will be Saturday, Jan. 27, at Clio Bowling Arcade.

The Hornets will compete against Swartz Creek, Holly, and Clio, starting at 9:30 a.m.
