Most student athletes dream of signing with a college for their favorite sport, and when they do it’s a big deal.

Senior Olivia Dunsmore signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 1, to play softball at Mott Community College while she studies for a career in nursing.

“It’s really exciting,” Dunsmore said. “It’s always been a dream to play collegiate softball.”

Dunsmore chose Mott because of the benefits the school provides.

“It’s local and offers a good nursing program,” Dunsmore said. “They offered me a good scholarship I couldn’t turn down.”

Dunsmore has played softball since she was about 5 years old and played a large role in making Kearsley’s softball team the 2017 Flint Metro League champion.

Mr. Paul Gaudard, athletics director, believes Dunsmore will succeed at Mott.

“It’s always awesome to see Kearlsey students go on to the next level,” Gaudard said. “We have a really strong tradition of sending students to Mott, and it’s really exciting to see Olivia doing that. I think she’ll do really well.”

The Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association has also presented Dunsmore with individual All-District honors.

Dunsmore hopes to accomplish many things in college softball, but a few stick out to her.

“I want to build lifelong friendships with my teammates and work toward success,” Dunsmore said.
