Boys track finishes third in league

Senior Hunter Stanley,  junior Taveon Harris, and sophomore Eddie Harris led the boys track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the Flint Metro League Championship meet.

The Hornets scored 63 points, falling behind Fenton (194.83), Flushing (116.16), and Swartz Creek (69.5).

Stanley earned second team All-League honors at the meet on Wednesday, May 24, hosted by Brandon.

He placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.79 seconds.

In addition, Stanley placed seventh in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 17.86 seconds.

Eddie and Taveon received third team All-League honors.

Taveon got third in the 100 and 400 dashes with times of 11.50 and 53.48 seconds, respectively.

Eddie also got third in shot put and discus, tossing personal best distance in each event.

He threw 46 feet, 10.25 inches in shot put and 129-02 in discus.

Sophomore Dylan Buschur also scored in both throwing events.

He got fourth in the discus, throwing 124-11, and scored sixth in shot put, throwing 43-00 for a personal best.

Also helping contribute to the team was junior Tommy Plunkey, getting sixth in the 100 dash with a time of 11.58. This was Plunkey’s personal best.

Senior Erick July ran 23.77 in the 200 dash, placing seventh.

In the 800 middle-distance race, freshman Raydoffa Braziel scored, as well. He ran in 2:10.52, getting eighth.

The 800 relay team finished in third and the 1600 relay team placed fourth. The 800 team ran in 1:34.92, while the 1600 team ran in 3:41.54.

Overall, the Hornets finished 6-2 this season and 5-2 in the league.

In conclusion of the Metro League, Kearsley finished third overall. Fenton claimed the league title while Flushing finished as runner-up.
