Boys track sweeps double-dual meet
The boys track and field team won its double-dual meets at Brandon and against Swartz Creek on Wednesday, May 3.
Kearsley flew past the Blackhawks 93-44 and slayed the Dragons 79-58.
Once again, the boys swept the sprint events.
Junior Taveon Harris led the Hornets, winning the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes.
In the 100, Harris finished first in 11.39, senior Erick July came in second at 11.59, followed by junior Tommy Plunkey who came in at 11.67.
Harris won the 200 with a time of 23.54, July placed second again in 23.71, and junior Tre’Ron Griffin placed third with a time of 24.58.
Harris and Griffin also won the 400 dash. Harris won, finishing in 51.79, and Griffin finished in 52.64.
Senior Darrion Younger placed second in the 800 run, coming in at 2:07.73.
The 800 run saw Younger finish second. His time was 2:07.73.
In the 110 high hurdles, senior Hunter Stanley won with a time of 17.40. Junior Gavin Etson followed in third place with a time of 18.65.
Stanley also won the 300 hurdles, finishing in 43.88, and Etson came in second with a time of 45.93.
Kearsley won the 400 and 800 relays.
The 400-relay team of July, Eddie Harris, Jaylon Burchfield, and Plunkey finished in 46.37.
The 800-relay team consisted of July, Eddie Harris, Plunkey, and Griffin won with a time of 1:35.79. They finished four seconds before the second-place team.
Eddie Harris placed third in the shot put, throwing 44 feet, 1 1/2 inches.
Sophomore Dylan Buschur then finished second in the discus throw. He threw 125-09.
The Hornets swept the high jump. Younger, Plunkey, and Etson all jumped 5-06, finishing first, second, and third, respectively.
Junior Philip Stites placed third in the pole vault, clearing 8-00.
Etson also placed third in the long jump, with a jump of 18-08.25.
Kearlsey is now 5-1 overall, and 4-1 in the league.
The Hornets will compete next at the Goodrich Invite, Friday, May 5.
