Boys track sweeps 200, shot, discus to best Owosso

The boys track and field team won its home meet against Owosso, Friday, April 28, aiding in Kearsley winning the K-O Clash.

The Hornets outscored the Trojans 80-57.

Kearsley swept the sprint events.

Juniors Taveon Harris and Tommy Plunkey finished first and seconfd in the 100-meter dash with times of 11.56 and 11.80, respectively.

Senior Erick July, Taveon Harris, and junior Tre’Ron Griffin went on to sweep the 200 dash. They finished in 23.97, 24.46, and 24.58, respectively.

The 400 dash was won by Griffin and Taveon Harris as well. The athletes recorded times of 52.00 and 52.72, respectively.

Freshman Raydoffa Braziel won the 800 run with a time of 2:12.90.

Junior Don Martin scored in third place in each of his distance races. He ran  5:24.09 in the 1600 and 11.39.75 in the 3200.

Senior Hunter Stanley finished the 110 high hurdles in second place with a time of 17.67 and junior Gavin Etson placed third, finishing in 18.16.

Stanley then went on to win the 300 hurdles in 44.56, while Etson took third with a time of 45.35.

All three sprint relays took first place.

The 400 relay of July, Eddie Harris, Jaylon Burchfield, and Plunkey finished in 46.44.

July, Eddie Harris, Jacob Kunkel, Plunkey, and Griffin made up the 800 relay, which won with a time of 1:35.89.

The winning 1600-relay team consisted of Griffin, Stanley, Braziel, and Harris. Their time was 3:48.16.

The Hornets also swept the throwing events.

Sophomore Dylan Buscher won the shot put, throwing 41 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

Eddie Harris placed second throwing 41-03.75, and senior Seth Cherubini threw for third, at 40-06.50.

In the discus, Cherubini won, throwing 125-11.

Buschur placed second, with a toss of 125-04, and senior Jamelco Harvey was third, with a distance of 112-07.

In high jump, Etson placed second with a leap of 5-06, and Plunkey jumped 5-04, which was good enough for third place.

Etson also placed third in long jump, jumping 18-04.

Kearsley’s record is 3-1 overall, 2-1 in the league.

The Hornets next meet is Wednesday, May 3, at Brandon in a double-dual meet against Brandon and Swartz Creek.
