McKay, Walker, White propel girls track to victory
Seniors Ave’r McKay and Madison White, along with freshman Sydney Walker led the girls track scoring against Clio,
The Hornets beat the Mustangs with 95-37 on Wednesday, April 26, at home.
McKay led the team with a total of 16.25 points and first place in all four of her events, which included 100-meter dash, the 200, the 400, and the 1600 relay.
McKay won the 100 in 13.73, the 200 in 29.58, and the 400 in 1:03.10. McKay won the 1600 relay with her teammates Madison Jordan, Amelia Boggs, and Stacia Tipton in 4:39.91.
Walker followed with a contribution of 10.5 points from the 400 relay, high jump, and long jump. Walker placed first in the high jump, jumping 4 feet, 4 inches, and took second and set a personal record of 14-03 in the long jump.
Walker ran the second leg of the 400 relay with teammates Boggs, Sierra Walker, and Tipton. Their winning time was 57.66.
White followed close behind with 10 points, winning the 100 and 300 hurdles. White ran the 100 hurdles in 21.16 and the 300 hurdles in 56.09, while Briahna Greer placed third in both events, running 22.50 in the 100 and 1:01.18 in the 300.
Other sprint scorers were Boggs in the 100, sprinting a 15.13 for third place, while Tipton was third in the 200 in a time of 29.92. In addition, junior Madison Jordan finished third in the 400. She ran a 1:07.62.
Freshman Ava Kelsey won the 3200 in 16:33.57 and was second in the 1600, running 7:39.70. Sophomore Grace Chandler placed third in the 1600 in a time of 7:46.60.
In the 800, freshman Nisha Hartley was second in 2:55.03.
Sophomores Mackenzie Ramey and Mary Wheeler contributed six points each from their shot put and discus events.
Ramey won shot put by throwing 32-07 and took third in discus with a personal record of 75-09.
Wheeler finished second in shot put with a personal record of 25-08 and was second in discus with a distance of 77-05.
Junior Barbra Hawes won the discus with a toss of 86-08.
In addition, seniors Alexis Schwartz and Savannah Jones took first and second, respectively, in pole vault. Schwartz vaulted 7-0 and Jones vaulted 6-06.
Finally, the 800-relay team (Boggs, Jordan , Sydney Walker, and Tipton) won in 2:00.43 , while the 3200-relay team (Hartley, Dever, Chloe Vollmar, and Savannah Jones) also won in 12:34.97.
The Hornets are 2-1 in the league, currently tied for third place with Flushing and Swartz Creek.
Fenton is in first place at 4-0 while Linden is 3-1 in second.
The track team will appear next at home in the second annual K-O Clash against Owosso on Friday, April 28.
