The girls bowling team is pleased after winning the Metro League title Saturday, Jan. 28.

The girls bowling team clinched the Metro League title for the eighth year in a row.

The Hornets beat Flushing 27-3 at the Clio Bowling Arcade in the first match of that day Saturday, Jan. 28.

Afterward, Kearsley matched up against Holly and won 29-1.

In the match against Flushing, the Hornets top bowlers were freshman Imari Blond’s 226 and 211, as well as sophomore Mary Wheeler’s 247.

Blond was impressed with the team’s performance.

“I am very proud of how we did this weekend,” Blond said.

In the second match of the day, Blond and junior Barbara Hawes led the team to victory. Blond scored a 225 and 222, while Hawes managed games of 211 and 200.

Hawes felt the Hornets had not been challenged yet.

“I think we worked well as a team,” Hawes said. “We were finally challenged for the first time this season.”

Winning these matches means the girls won the Metro League championship. Kearsley is 12-0 in the league with two matches remaining while Flushing is in second place with a 9-3 record.

Hawes said, “I’m proud of our performance and sportsmanship.”
