Winter fashion can keep you warm while being stylish
Falling leaves and temperatures means it is time to change our wardrobe.
Boot socks and heavy scarfs will be a necessary to survive harsh winter weather in style.
So what is everyone prepared to wear in this harsh Michigan weather?
Heavy Scarfs
Michigan winters are a serious matter and just a coat will not keep the cold out.
Heavy winter scarfs are stylish and warm, so why wouldn’t you have one?
Sophomore Chloe Vollmar loves her scarfs and said she can’t live without them.
“I love wearing scarfs with a warm fall sweater and boots,” Vollmar said. “Scarfs add style to a plain outfit and keep me warm.”
However, Vollmar said scarfs can be worn all year round.
“Personally, I like to wear scarfs year round besides summer because summer months are too hot,” Vollmar said.
Ponchos
Ponchos are the new trend in winter fashion.
Ponchos are like your typical sweater but looser
In senior Dena Hussein’s opinion, ponchos are also more comfortable than sweaters.
Hussein loves her gray and black poncho.
Hussein purchased her poncho at T.J.Maxx and said it was her favorite winter purchase.
“I love it more than anything,” she said. “It’s comfy and warm.”
Her favorite way to wear her poncho is with leggings and boots with boot socks.
“There is no other way to wear it, honestly,” Hussein said while laughing.
Hussein said she purchased this because she likes being different.
“I like being unique,” Hussein said. “I like having a different style than everyone else.”
Hussein said a poncho was a necessity and she will be purchasing more.
Boot Socks
Boot socks are a way to keep your feet warm and look cute doing it.
Senior Kaitlyn Alburtus said she enjoys wearing her boot socks.
“Honestly, I have more than I can even count,” Alburtus said with a laugh.
Alburtus enjoys wearing boot socks but not just because they’re cute.
“I love them because they’re comfy and easy to make an outfit with,” she said.
For Alburtus, boot socks have become a staple in her wardrobe.
She wears them at least three times a week.
“I like wearing boot socks with a sweater or cardigan and jeans or leggings,” Alburtus said.
Long Winter Coats
Surviving Michigan weather sometimes requires a coat that goes past our hips.
Long coats are the new winter trend.
For junior Lia Silvas, the long coat is a requirement.
“Everyone should have one,” she said.
Silvas loves her burgundy Calvin Klein coat.
Silvas said long coats are better than short coats because the extra length helps keep the cold at bay.
“Long coats are so much better because they cover your legs more, making you warm,” Silvas said.
Sweaters
Sweaters are practically part of every outfit during the winter.
When it is simply too cold to wear just a hoodie, sweaters provide warmth and comfort, according to junior Hailey Kidd.
Kidd loves wearing her sweaters in December, January, and February.
“I really think having a sweater in the winter is a must have,” Kidd said.
Kidd gets her sweaters from every store. She does not have a certain store she shops at.
“Honestly, I don’t have a favorite sweater store,” she said.
Since Kidd likes to shop but finds it hard with her busy life to get to the stores, she buys her sweaters from home.
“(The) majority of my sweaters come from online,” Kidd said. “I can get whatever I want, whenever I want, without having to go to the store.”
Beanies
Junior Kennedy Lints enjoys wearing her cream Love your Melon beanie.
“I not only love how cute the hat is, I love that Love you Melon helps fight against childhood cancer,” Lints said
Love your Melon is an apparel brand that gives a hat to every child battling cancer in America.
Lints thinks everyone should own a Love your Melon hat.
“They are so warm and comfy and the money goes to a great cause,” Lints said.
Lints said that even if you’re not going to buy a Love Your Melon hat, everyone should still own a hat.
“Hats keep you warm,” she said, “and they’re a cute way to add style to a winter outfit.”
