Junior Sebastian Young croons Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” at the Mr. Kearsley talent show Wednesday, Oct. 12.

“I never thought in a million years I would be the one to win,” Mr. Kearsley said.

Who is Mr. Kearsley?

Sebastian Young.

Young, a junior, won the Mr. Kearsley talent show Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Young is a 17-year-old musician.

From an early age, Young had a passion for music.

“I just love everything about music,” Young said while smiling.

“Over the years, music has became a whole different meaning to me,” Young said. “Music used to be just words, in a rhythm. But now I finally understand the deeper meaning.”

Young is a self-taught musician but cannot take all the credit for his success.

“I owe my dad and my grandparents a huge thank you for always supporting my passion and financially supporting me every step of the way,” Young said.

Young plays the saxophone, piano, drums, and guitar, both electric and acoustic.

Although, he prefers playing electric guitar, he said acoustic shows off his talents.

“My music is my escape from reality,” Young said.

Young said this was his second year participating in the Mr. Kearsley talent show.

“I performed at Mr. Kearsley freshman year, and I did not win. I figured I’d try again this year, and I won,” Young said with a laugh.

Young’s performance this year was singing “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra. Young said he likes timeless music.

“Classical music is my favorite type of music, so singing this song only made sense,” Young said.

Young is the oldest of two. When he is not playing guitar or playing the drums, he enjoys spending time with his siblings.

“I love them,” he said. “My family is a big part of my life.”

Young also has played travel soccer since he was 11.

“Although I love music, nothing beats winning a game,” Young said.

Music is a big part of Young’s life, whether it be in his bedroom, on the stage, or just in his headphones.

Young’s musical talents shined at Mr. Kearsley.

“I would like to thank the judges (for) picking me as the winner,” Young said. “I am truly thankful.”
