With the school year ending and summer approaching, The Eclipse is one step ahead as it has already begun thinking about what next year will bring.

Juniors Ave’r McKay and Ryan Thomas, both former sports editors, have been promoted.

McKay, former assistant sports editor, was promoted to editor in chief, which is the top position held at The Eclipse. Thomas, former sports editor, was promoted to managing editor.

McKay and Thomas are both excited to see what next year will bring, as well as Mr. Darrick Puffer, adviser. Puffer is happy with the promotions he has made.

“I am pleased to have Ave’r and Ryan as The Eclipse’s next executive editors,” Puffer said. “They did a great job as sports editors this year, and their knowledge about the paper and dedication to the news site is remarkable.”

McKay was not expecting her promotion but said she has ideas she cannot wait to bring to The Eclipse.

“I was not completely expecting to be appointed editor in chief,” McKay said. “However, I am not completely surprised. I hope to bring a new perspective to the newspaper and reach out more to students in order to get them more involved.”

Being appointed the highest position in The Eclipse is quite the honor that McKay is thrilled to have received because she has put a lot into the success of The Eclipse.

“I was extremely honored to be offered this position. The newspaper is something that I have put a lot of time into and that means a lot to me.”

Puffer believes McKay will have big shoes to fill, but is confident she will have no problem doing so.

“As the new editor in chief, Ave’r will continue the tradition of excellence that her predecessors built before her. Ave’r is an outstanding student and young lady,” he said. “She leads by example and is extremely organized, so I believe she’ll lead The Eclipse very well next year.”

Thomas holds the No. 2 position for the news site.

Puffer is sure that Thomas will be an excellent leader and asset to the success of The Eclipse.

“Ryan has a great grasp of writing sports, using language that is creative,” Puffer said. “Ryan has a great deal of experience writing for The Eclipse.”

Thomas was a reporter his sophomore year and editor during his junior year. He is now ready to advance once again to become managing editor.

“I am excited for the next year with The Eclipse and what the new staff will bring,” Thomas said.

Thomas was honored when we he was chosen to be managing editor and is excited to start another year with the news site on a good note with McKay.

“Being named managing editor was a great honor,” Thomas said. “Ave’r is incredibly intelligent, and I’ve seen her grow as a writer and editor. I will really enjoy working with her again next year.”

Thomas has wonderful things to say about McKay and is confident she will thrive next year.

“She’s going to be fantastic as the editor in chief,” Thomas said.
