The school store, the Hornets Nest, has taken on an additional business this year.

K-Town Tees is a profitable heat-pressing business that is able to customize designs for the community.

The business was established in efforts to cut costs.

Mrs. Kim Guest, marketing teacher, said there are benefits to having a business like K-Town Tees.

“By creating K-Town Tees, the Hornets Nest is able to sell apparel for a cheaper price, and we can take orders and designs from anyone,” Guest said.

The business has heat-pressed 13 designs since the beginning of the school year.

The first design that K-Town Tees heat-pressed was a T-shirt for the DECA chapter.

The gray short sleeve in royal blue reads “DECA 2015” going down the left side of the front.

On the back, the T-shirt states a quote from entrepreneur Mark Cuban in gold lettering: “Because if you’re prepared and you know what it takes, it’s not a risk. You just have to figure out how to get there. There is always a way to get there.”

Senior Gionna Gentry shared her thoughts about the shirt.

“I love my DECA shirt,” Gentry said. “It is super comfortable. I really like the design and the quote on the back. It’s nice.”

K-Town Tees’ latest design is a neon-blue and yellow Kearsley Hornets “Fear the sting” shirt.

Seniors Andrew Edwards and Santino Guerra were able to model the new design before the T-shirts were released to the Hornets Nest.

“I would wear this design,” Edwards said. “It is so much more different than the traditional shirts that are sold in the Hornets Nest. I like them a lot.”

Guerra added that the shirts have proved Kearsley is able to groom students into being successful entrepreneurs.

“The shirts K-Town Tees has made so far really prove that kids from Kearsley are able to do bigger things,” Guerra said. “K-Town Tees will be making the Class of 2016’s prom shirts.”

K-Town Tees has proved to be a success and will be taken to this year’s DECA Internationals held in Nashville.

“I am very proud of what our heat-pressing business has done so far,” Guest said.
