Prama takeover: do not let drama ruin your prom night

Prom, the dance of the year.

Filled with lights, laughter, and smiles, this event is one major highlight of senior year.

Practically everyone in the Senior Class looks forward to the big day on Saturday, April 30.

But this night can easily lead to disaster if not planned correctly.

And if it is obsessed over too much, this can stress out students.

Here are some tips to avoid the prama, or prom drama.

Finding a date

There are some individuals doubting the necessity of attending prom due to having no date.

But even Cinderella did not have a date to the ball, so why do students generally feel like they need one to have fun?

Sure, having a date has some perks, but it also has some disadvantages as well.

For example, a date requires attention.

Most people expect their dates to only dance with them. How boring is that?

Without a date, students do not feel pressured to to be glued to a date’s hip the entire time.

This allows students to do their own thing, thriving independently.

Not to mention, there is nothing wrong with going with friends.

With a group of their closest pals, students can enjoy pictures, dinner, and dancing just as much as they would with a date, if not more.

But if you do decide to ask someone, try and do it in a unique way.

Promposals

This is the most stressful and exciting of them all, finding a date — or not.

It is not the end of the world if you do not have a date. You are not entitled to this stigma.

But if you are interested in spending prom night with that special someone, or even a friend, try to dazzle them with the best promposal possible.

Get creative.

But if you can barely draw a stick figure, just look on Pinterest for ideas.

The Internet can be a helpful tool when looking for inspiration.

Remember, if you do not feel uncomfortable with how you are asking, you are doing it wrong.

Wardrobe

For ladies, prom is all about the dress.

Everyone wants something captivating to the eye.

But so what if another girl is wearing the same dress as you.

Prom is your night. Do not let it get ruined over something insignificant.

If you feel good in that dress, do not worry that someone else has it on, too.

Strut that dress, girl! Work it!

And if your hair is not perfect, do not fret over it.

Letting those small, petty details get to you can easily ruin your night.

Just focus on the positive aspects of how you look.

Picture time

This can be stressful, especially if you are the group planner.

You need to find the right background with the people who are the dearest to you.

Not to mention, everyone has to agree on where the pictures will be taken.

And on top of that, pictures before prom are exhausting, especially when you have been smiling for at least 30 minutes straight for your grandma.

For the girls, this is the time when curls fall, lipstick smears, and makeup fades.

For the guys, just smile and wave, even if your jaw starts unbearably hurting. If your date wants to take hours worth of pictures, suck it up, buttercup.

Prom pictures hold memories that will last a lifetime, so suck it in and smile through the pain.

School rules

For KHS, it is required that you have not been absent over nine days first semester in each class in order to attend prom.

Attention: do not think if you miss over nine days you will still be able to attend by talking to the principal about it.

Rules are rules so make sure to follow them.

Getting suspended three or more days any time during the year will also keep you from attending.

Just be smart and avoid any kind of trouble.

Sucking up to the principal will get you nowhere, and sneaking in is impossible.

Trust me.

Dinner

The most horrifying part of the night can be dinner.

Wear as many napkins as you can!

Boys, if you believe that ribs are a necessity, think again.

Girls, if you are considering spaghetti, think again.

Saucy meals can lead to disaster, especially for an expensive dress and tuxedo. Stick with something that is not too messy, like a fish or steak.

Avoiding promplications can save you not only stress and tears but also a night spent in the bathroom trying to clean up the mess off of your would-be perfect outfit.

But the most crucial tip for prom is not to worry about what others think.

If you want to do the disco in the middle of the dance floor, do it.

If you want to wear a dress that does not match your shoes, do it.

Be confident — do not be afraid to be yourself, no matter what.

Prom is your night to shine, so do not fade into the background.

Just try to enjoy the night, and, above all, avoid the prama.
