My open letter to the Republican nominee
March 24, 2016
To whomever is the Republican presidential nominee:
I have some opinions on the topics of your nomination.
Foreign Policy
We approach a dangerous time in American history.
As wars are tearing apart the Middle East, are we safe in our homes?
Safety of the American people should be the top priority.
We have to strengthen our relations with our allies, while also letting our enemies know our boundaries.
We also have to let our enemies know what we are capable of and that we will not be pushed around.
China lacks human rights, and we need to use that as an example of why we should enforce the idea of rights for all humans.
We should not take in Syrian refugees. It is too risky to the well-being of the American people.
Terrorism is a force we have to fight. The United States does not negotiate with terrorists.
When people ask “Why get involved?” there is a simple answer to that question: It is who we are.
We have always been the defenders of freedom and human rights. When human rights are threatened, the world looks to us to help the helpless.
Immigration
We are not a nation unless we have borders — borders that we protect.
We have 11 million illegal immigrants living in this country. This is a matter that must be taken care of.
Illegal immigrants are taking jobs from Americans, which is a disgrace.
There should be no problem with people coming into this country legally, but we have to stop illegal immigration.
Too many illegal immigrants are in our prisons, costing us billions. Deportation needs to be done instead of prison for illegal immigrants.
There needs to be a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep illegal immigrants out.
Health Care
Obamacare needs to be repealed with something that works better for all Americans.
Under Obamacare, millions of Americans are still uninsured, which is a huge waste if we are going for universal health care.
Deductibles for Obamacare are so high that it makes it difficult for lower-income families to pay them, making it useless.
National Debt
Our current debt is $19 trillion, which is catastrophic.
If the national debt reaches $24 trillion, that is the point of no return.
We will not be able to pay it all back after this point.
We need someone who is willing to cut unnecessary federal spending.
Part of our problem is spending more than we are collecting in taxes, so we need someone smart who can balance the budget.
Unemployment
Unemployment is still a major problem in this country.
Some sources tell us it is at a low 4.9 percent, but really it is nearly 40 percent.
Democrats believe that raising business taxes will remove pressure off the middle class, but this is not true.
Raising business taxes would do nothing but cause companies to move jobs overseas where the taxes are cheaper.
We need to lower corporate taxes so companies can hire more employees and give their employees more benefits.
Taxes
Americans are being taxed heavily and that needs to change.
We need flat rate taxes for a more fair taxation system.
The middle class needs to have taxes cut. It cannot afford higher taxes, but the super wealthy can.
Environment
The environment is important, and we need to protect it for our future generations.
Grant tax exemptions to companies who use clean energy.
Educate young Americans on how important taking care of the environment is.
Gun Control
The biggest problem in our country is that mass shootings are blamed on the guns and not the individuals committing the crime.
We need to provide help for the mentally ill, not take away Second Amendment rights.
Gun ownership makes the United States safer, not more dangerous.
Places that have the highest gun ownership rates also have the lowest crime rates.
Gun laws are only followed by law-abiding citizens, not criminals.
Stronger gun laws will not keep criminals from getting guns, since they do not follow the law anyway.
Planned Parenthood
We need to stop funding Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood is important, but abortions must stop.
Cut all government funding for abortions. It’s a waste of tax dollars.
There can be exceptions for victims of rape and health reasons.
Miscellaneous
Our country has been built on Christian values, and lately it would not seem like it.
“In God We Trust” should not be removed from our currency. It’s who we are and what we stand for.
We do not have to agree with gay marriage, but it is law and we have to accept that.
The police are mistreated in America and this is wrong.
There needs to be harsher punishments for crimes against police officers.
The death penalty needs to be enforced, and a streamlined process for prisoners on death row needs to be created.
There should be no federal legalization of any drug.
I, as a first-time voter, am looking up to you to keep us safe, fight for the people, and lead our country into the next great generation in American history.
Thank you for fighting for the United States of America and God bless.
