Tennis players prepare for the season

Girls’ tennis season has quickly approached KHS and Coach Corey Fisher looks forward to it.

With eight returning seniors, including Lindsay Nofs, at No. 1 singles, and Shelby Coates, at No. 2 singles, the team will be composed of mainly veteran girls this season.

However, Fisher hopes to recruit many new faces, as well.

“Hopefully we have lots of girls come out for the season,” Fisher said. “It is a great sport and usually great weather.”

Fisher hopes the team will improve further this year.

“We have added matches (for this season) that I expect to be very competitive against,” Fisher said.

So far, the tennis team has roughly 15 scheduled matches.

Some of the girls, including senior Alysa Figgins, have been participating in tennis lessons in order to prepare for the season.

“Most of the team started lessons in early January to start prepping,” Figgins said. “We are all getting really hyped for the season.”

Practices are from 3:15 to 5 p.m. on the courts if the weather permits. If not, practice is at the Burgtorf gymnasium, located in the old Pumpkin Patch building.

“I am excited to start the last season of my tennis career at Kearsley, and I know a lot of the other girls are too,” Figgins said.
