Senior Anthony Kelley

Satirical, accomplished, outgoing, and hard working are all words to describe Senior Anthony Kelley.

I interviewed Kelley on a cold, cloudy November day in Flint. Kelley sat comfortably on a sofa, speaking in a quiet tone with few words and a smirk on his face. As Kelley prepared for the interview, he seemed calm, but I could sense a bit of eagerness and anxiety in his motions and voice.

Kelley stands at 6 feet 2 inches, has red hair, and has the beginnings of a beard.

Known mostly for his accomplishments as a member of the bowling team, Kelley  has been a varsity member for four years.

As a member of the 2014 conference, regional, and state championship team, he described the past season as being “awesome”  and “fantastic.”

When asked about the worst moments of last season, Kelley said, “There aren’t many.”

After some thinking, Kelley did mention that he didn’t like all of the “arguing with teammates.”

The team only lost one senior from the team to graduation last year, and there are six seniors on the team this year.

When asked about the advantages of the team this season, Kelley liked having “most of the team being the same as last year.”

Kelley is looking forward to another successful season and holds himself and the team to high standards.

“Win it all. That’s the goal,” Kelley said. “I don’t know if we will achieve it or not, though.”

After high school, Kelley plans on attending college at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio. He plans to bowl for UNOH, as well.

Outside of the bowling scene, Kelley enjoys building things and working on cars during his free time.

Each day, as part of his Genesee Career Institute curriculum, Kelley travels to a car dealership and works to get real-world experience.

Kelley said he has been working on cars for four years and often works on them with his friend Jacob Haist.

Kelley said many people describe him as “arrogant” and “having a big head.” He said he does not take these as insults because whoever says this about him “pretty much” has it right.

Kelley was not afraid to tell me how it was during the interview. There was no holding back.

It is this that makes him who he is. He is a unique individual with a distinct personality.
