After School app back in business after minor changes
After School is an app that describes itself to be used for posting anonymous confessions, funny experiences, and more.
But many students have been using it for other purposes.
The app was originally for students ages 12 and over.
However, the app was taken down from the App Store Dec. 4. It was put back up several hours later with several warnings and an age restriction to 17 years and up.
Because of the anonymity, some students logged on to make inappropriate comments about other classmates and post inappropriate images. Many students were the victims of cyberbullying.
Mr. Brian Wiskur, principal, said that it is hard for school officials to control what students do with the app on their phones.
“I haven’t done a lot to prevent students from getting on the app because our attorneys tell us that it is freedom of speech, and I can’t tell kids what to do after school at all,” Wiskur said. “But the government can get involved if there are any threats detected.”
Because of this, the school warned parents of the dangers of the app by calling them and posting a letter about it on the school website.
