The Environmental Club is holding a paper drive contest from Monday, Jan. 11 to Friday, Jan. 15.

It’s time to start rounding up all of the unnecessary paper around the house and out of backpacks.

The Environmental Club is holding a recycling contest Monday, Jan. 11, through Friday, Jan 15. Each sixth hour class will be given an empty bin and the class that has the most paper in the bin at the end of the week will be the winner.

The students in the winning class will each receive a popcorn coupon for The Hornets Nest.

This contest is to be the Environmental Club’s kickoff event, a way to make the school aware of the new recycling program.

Mrs. Leah Thomas, adviser, hopes that this will get students in the habit of recycling and to make everyone aware of just how easy and rewarding it can be.

After all, trees are needed to live, so the less that are cut down the better for everyone.

One ton of paper is the equivalent of 24,000 gallons of water, 20 trees, and four barrels of oil, if it is saved.

Thomas said, “The contest is really just a way to bring recycling to the attention of students and staff so they all will continue recycling throughout the year.”
