The latest trend to hit teenagers is glitter roots.

The things worn by celebrities rarely hit schools, but what if they did?

The latest hair trend, known as glitter roots, has been taking the Internet by storm.

Actress Lucy Hale may have been the one who started it all.

About four weeks ago she made an Instagram post about the new hair trend, racking up more than 290,000 likes.

Singer/songwriter Miley Cyrus has been seen sporting glittery locks on several occasions.

Bright colored hair has been around for quite some time now, and glitter roots are a less drastic way of styling hair.

Many magazines have featured this trend, including Teen Vogue and Seventeen.

It initially started as a way for women to hide their grown out roots by having to get their hair dyed.

Do not be surprised if you see this trend around the school.

It is one that any girl can figure out and pull off.

You can just sprinkle the glitter onto your hair or you can make a hair spray-type version on your own.

Making the spray is a simple process.

Take an empty spray bottle and fill it with water.

Then, sprinkle in as much glitter as you would like in the mixture.

To make it stick, add a little hair spray.

The mixture is easy to wash out, so do not worry if you try it and dislike it.

This is a fun way either to spice up your hair or cover your roots until you can get your hair redyed.

New Year’s and the Sadie’s Hawkins dance are both coming up and these may be the best events to test out this new trend.
