The girls’ basketball team beat Northwestern 44-39 on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Senior Diane Bond helped the Hornets with 14 points and three assists. She did her damage from a pair of lines, going 5-for-6 on free throws and making three 3-pointers.

“I struggled with being nervous in the first quarter and got into foul trouble early,” Bond said. “Once I settled down I started making shots and creating for my teammates more.”

Bond also tallied five steals, which helped the girls early as they depended on defense.

Kearsley scored 15 points in the second quarter to jump start the offense after scoring nine in the opening quarter.

The Hornets led at the half by three, 24-21.

Junior Brandi Morgan was also a force on offense, scoring 14 points on 11 shots

Senior Karmen Bishoff played well in the paint, grabbing seven boards and knocking down three free throws.

The Wildcats were led by a pair of scorers. Arianna Asberry and Charnetta Price combined for 24 points.

It was neck and neck until the final few minutes of the game.

The Hornets went into the fourth quarter with a one-point lead then finished out playing well in transition.

Bond finished the game with two clutch free throws after a technical foul in the fourth quarter.

“When I hit both technical free throws, I felt confident that we had the game won with a five-point lead,” Bond said.

The Hornets hope to remain undefeated, hosting Owosso on Friday, Dec. 4.
