Thinking of something fun to do this winter with your family and friends?

The third annual Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo is the perfect event for all families and groups of friends.

Wild Lights will be held between 5:30 and 9 p.m. in Royal Oak. During the dates of Dec. 11-13, 18-23, and 26-31.

Tickets cost $9 in advance and $11 at the gate. Parking cost $6.

Wild Lights has many festivities such as live entertainment, arts and crafts, ice carving, and a photo with Santa until Wednesday, Dec. 23, with an extra purchase.

Another activity is The Polar Express 4-D Experience, which is $5.

In addition, new this year is the Polar Plunge, which cost $3 for a single ride and $12 for a night pass that is only good for that night.

The website strongly recommends that you purchase tickets ahead of time because tickets are prone to sell out.

People with advanced ticket purchases should consider arriving at least 30 minutes early.

The Detroit Zoo will have over 5 million lights this year, and with over 100 animal sculptures along a path through the front half of the zoo.

“It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the season with your friends, family, and loved ones,” Miller said. “The Detroit Zoo is open 362 day out of the year, and winter is a wonderful time to see animals inside and out.”

Senior Liam Grathoff anticipates going to Wild lights, an event in which he has attended in years past.

“I’m looking forward to the light show and spending time with my friends,” Grathoff said.
