Football team beaten by Brandon
The football team lost 42-21 at Brandon in an all-out rushing battle Friday, Oct. 16.
The Hornets and Blackhawks combined for 81 running plays.
Senior Matt Parkinson had a big game, leading his Hornets in 76 rushing yards, along with 36 receiving yards.
Parkinson scored his only touchdown of the game with 3:19 left in the fourth quarter. Senior Josh Roberts ran a two-point conversion, tallying the final points for Kearsley.
Also scoring for Kearsley was senior running back Ryan Bennett, who had 16 rushing attempts for 50 yards with two touchdowns.
Brandon’s Dawson Nichols had a huge game, rushing eight times for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Nichols made the biggest play of the game, running 80 yards for a score with 56 seconds left in the third quarter.
With the football season coming to a close this week, the Hornets take on Clio in the last game of the season.
Kearsley may be evenly matched with Clio.
The Mustangs currently sit in seventh place in the Metro League, tied with Kearsley, but best the Hornets with a 2-6 overall record. Kearsley is 1-7 overall.
Averaging just over 11 points per game, Clio sports the lowest-scoring offense in the league. Kearsley’s offense is averaging more than 17 points per game.
However, Kearsley has given up the most points in the league, allowing a little more than 34 points per game.
The Mustangs defense gives up more than 27 points per game.
Neither team has won a league game this season, and they both surely do not want to finish last in the league.
The showdown between the Hornets and the Mustangs is Friday, Oct. 23, at Clio.
