This is part three in a five-part series.

On the first day of my trip we flew into Madrid and got acquainted with the city. From there we visited Segovia, and the castle there, and the cathedral in Burgos.

On the sixth day of our ten-day trip, we traveled to Bilbao to visit the famous Guggenheim Museum. The building itself is a work of art; it is designed to have the likeness of a fish and the sea with waves and scale-like structures.

The Guggenheim showcases very modern, fun, and colorful art, which was nice to see after all of the cathedrals and ancient landmarks we had been touring.

The Guggenheim also has an outdoor exhibit which, when I was there, featured “Tulips” and “Puppy”  by Jeff Koons, and “Maman” by Lousie Bourgeois. My favorite of these was “Puppy” because it is a giant dog made out of flowers. Who wouldn’t like that?

After the Guggenheim, we went to the famous football (soccer) stadium. It was very cool, and although we did not get to see it at night, I could tell that it was designed so that the outside of the stadium had lights.

Another thing that Bilbao is famous for is its tapas, or finger foods/appetizers. Ms. Caitlin Hudgins and Ms. Laura Pence were nice enough to take us out to lunch for tapas, which, despite the majority of it being seafood, were actually really good.

The lunch gave me a bit of a cultural experience, which is the whole point of traveling.
