Bronchos bolt past football team

The football team lost its third game of the season Friday, Sept. 18, falling to Holly 42-12.

Both teams came into the game 1-2, hoping to raise their season records to .500.

Holly, on a two-game losing streak, did not want to disappoint fans during its homecoming. The Bronchos scored 13 points more than their previous high.

For Kearsley, junior Darrion Younger, who stepped up big in his last game with 135 yards on 9 receptions, came to play once again.

Younger put the Hornets on the board in the second quarter. He returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

Late in the fourth quarter, Younger struck again, scoring on a 42-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Tommy Plunkey.

Younger’s 12 points tie his previous season high, which is tied for second in the Metro League for single-game scoring.

Plunkey has performed well in the absence of senior quarterback Antonio St. John, who went down early in the Flushing game on Sept. 11.

Unfortunately for Kearsley, the Hornets scored their lowest point total in a game this season. This was also the first game in which they failed to score an extra point.

Kearsley, now 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in league games, sits winless in the Metro League with Clio and Swartz Creek.  Clio is 2-2 overall, while Swartz Creek is 1-3.

The Hornets hope to rebound in their next game, at home against Fenton (3-1, 2-0), on Friday, Sept. 25.

Fenton sits at the top of the Metro League with Flushing and Linden, all of whom have identical records.
