With the start of December and Christmas right around the corner, arrives the joyous winter activities.
A winter in Michigan isn’t just frigid days and long nights with ice and slush covering the ground, but a time to bundle up, have fun in the slush, and enjoy the holiday events.
Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad is a hot spot for most Kearsley families around Christmas time.
During the holiday season, Crossroads Village does a special tree lighting, that involves fireworks and caroling.
Junior Lexy Motsinger loved going to the tree lighting, even though it was really cold.
“It was a lot fun.” said Motsinger. “It was really cold, but it was worth it for the fireworks.”
It has thousands of light around the town, shops, rides, and many more to enjoy.
You can also ride the train that takes you around to look at all the lights.
This is the perfect place for children, families, couples, or friends to go to around the holiday season.
Frankenmuth may be a bit further, but is worth it once you see the lights or attend one of the many events they have during December.
There’s lots of decorations along the streets and stores to go in to with an array of restaurants to enjoy.
Ice skating is another favorite for Kearsley students whether it’s indoors or outdoors.
Frankenmuth is one of many places to go ice skate.
As well as ice skating, sledding, making snowmen, and just enjoying the snow are some other favorite outdoor activities to do during the cold, snowy weather, as they take us back to when we were kids playing in the snow.
There’s no fun like reliving your childhood memories of playing in the snow.
Many Kearsley students can agree they don’t enjoy the cold weather.
Cooking and baking are especially a fun thing to do around Christmas.
Whether it’s cooking Christmas dinner, baking cookies, making other treats, or building gingerbread houses, nothing beats being in the warmth and comfort of your home.
Then to settle down and enjoy the things you’ve made while watching a Christmas movie.
A few favorites are How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, and Home Alone.
Christmas does not have to be a time of coldness and dispirit.
Senior Grace Won is enthusiastic when it comes to snow here in Michigan.
“I don’t like cold weather, but I enjoy the snow because we barely get it in South Korea.”
Winter in Michigan is not something to dread, it is a time to look forward to this holiday season.
