The latest installment of the “Star Wars” franchise was released on Friday, Dec. 20.
The movie fared well at the box office, receiving $918 million in revenue and positive reviews from fans.
Sophomore Kailer Young enjoyed the movie but thought there were some issues.
“I liked it but I don’t like it as much as the original trilogy,” Young said. “I thought it developed the characters well but it could have been better.”
Young was not impressed with the fight scenes in the movie.
“I thought it could have been more epic with the lightsaber battles and other stuff,” Young said. “There was definitely more that could have been done with that area.”
Senior Jonny Conway thinks the film has positive aspects but overall did not think very highly of the film.
“It was entertaining to watch and had some good and funny moments but that is all I feel that it did well,” Conway said. “The movie was rushed and left a lot of the plot unanswered, it didn’t explain parts of the movie, and it did not give a satisfying ending to a lot of the characters. Overall it was messy.”
There may have been good moments in the film but there were some serious problems as well.
While critics praised the cast performance and special effects, there were serious flaws with the story and pacing. These issues were apparent when I viewed the movie.
The pacing of the film is odd and felt rushed as well.
The production staff didn’t give enough time to develop the plot properly as the characters were hopping from planet to planet and spending little to no time on each, which led to the plot feeling rushed.
Along with this, the story leaves plot holes and a lot of things to be answered.
One of these holes is how Emperor Palpatine survived his fall at the end of “Return of the Jedi,” which has been a frequently discussed topic across the internet.
The story may have not been the best ending to the latest trilogy either.
There were problems resolved in the movie but it still felt like there was more to be done and it felt like the movie left audiences hanging.
The film would have been a better entry if it was one of the middle entries into the saga instead of being the finale.
However, I believe that the positives outweigh the negatives and the movie is still a great entry into the “Star Wars” saga.
