The robotics team built this robot for last year’s competitions. The team will build another robot this season.

The robotics club is preparing for this year’s competitions.

Junior Gabe Carnes, lead programmer and co-driver, said, “I feel that we will do even better this year since we have now started to figure out how the build season and competitions go.”

Mrs. Brandi Schmidt, lead mentor, said that the team is “working hard” to get sponsors in order to fund and promote the robotics club.

The team needs $5,000 for the entry fees for two competitions. This would be enough to cover registration and extra parts for their robot, but the team would still need more money for travel expenses.

“I think the team is going to do great,” Schmidt said. “We have a very dedicated group of students.”

Sophomores Kierstyn Simpson and Hannah Brackin are looking forward to the upcoming robotics season.

Simpson enjoys the competitive aspect.

“I’m looking forward to what the competitions will be about,” Simpson said.

For Brackin, the robotics club is a way for her to advance her education.

“I get to learn stuff you don’t get to learn in school,” Brackin said. “You can use it to go on to things you do later in the future, like your jobs in engineering, marketing, or, pretty much anything.”
