New wrestling coach brings new hope
The wrestling team kicks off its season against Waverly High School Wednesday, Dec. 11.
New coaches will lead the team this year, including Mr. Darnell Ruffin, Mr. Stan Marshal, and Mr. Zameer Pittman.
Ruffin is excited for the season.
“I think we’ve got a good group of kids,” Ruffin said. “They’re very dedicated.”
The team’s attitude fits well with Ruffin.
“(The mindset of the team) seems pretty positive. We have a new expectation,” Ruffin said. “I like to win and I think we are going to do a lot of that.”.
Senior La’Ron Ruffin is a key returner for the team after placing seventh All-State last season. His hopes are high for the season.
“I’m expecting to win the Metro (League), team districts, team regional, and make an appearance at states,” La’Ron Ruffin said. “I’m expecting to lead the team and make states this year and place higher.”
La’Ron Ruffin has reservations about the season as well.
“I’m worried about the underclassmen beating themselves down,” La’Ron Ruffin said.
