Girls track returns two state qualifiers
The girls track team is looking to improve from its 3-6 record last season.
Coach Mike Simms believes the group can improve.
“We have outstanding individuals, but we need to fill some holes to have a solid team,” Simms said.
Senior Mackenzie Ramey, an All-State shot putter who also throws discus, is excited for the upcoming season.
“I’m very excited but also definitely nervous,” Ramey said. “We don’t have a lot of girls but quality trumps quantity.”
Ramey said the team’s athletes will push themselves to have success.
“I feel we will do really well,” Ramey said. “Two of our returners are the only girls in our school to qualify for states.”
Ramey finished third at the MHSAA Division 2 state final last year with a put of 39 feet, 11.5 inches.
After earning All-League honors last year, sophomore Sanaii Walker will lead the Hornets in sprinting.
As a freshman, Walker qualified for three events in the state final: the 100-meter dash, 200, and 400.
