Youth EMPOWER demands change from Congress

Students all across America participated in the widely known walkout on April 14.

It gained popularity in the days leading up to the event, but it seems that after the walkout everyone has forgotten about the organization and what they were walking out for. Most students didn’t even know at the time and still may not.

Youth EMPOWER organized this walkout and others, but most people don’t even know the name of the organization.

Very few students know what the Youth EMPOWER movement really is and what they want from Congress.

EMPOWER is a group of teenage activists who want to see a change in gun violence around the nation. They are not only fighting for a change in gun violence in school but in all communities.

This group is not just a rag-tag group of teens fighting for something they know nothing about. They have done their research and have laid out their goals and demands.

EMPOWER’s demand is as follows: “We demand that Congress enact an immediate resolution declaring gun violence a public health crisis and dedicating federal funding to research solutions and implement violence intervention programs. We demand Congress recognize all forms of gun violence, including violence committed by police.”

To better understand exactly what this group is fighting for and against, EMPOWER has listed six priority policies they support and oppose.

In this article, The Eclipse explains what these six priority polices are.

Demand Two
