Girls bowling looks forward to defending its state title

The girls bowling team is warming up for another season.

But not just any season. The Hornets are defending, yet again, a state title.

No returning varsity bowler has ever not won a state championship. Think about it — this is a team that only knows state titles.

Kearsley has won four straight state championships and five in the last six years.

But senior Barbara Hawes said the team doesn’t worry about its history.

“I really don’t think we’re thinking about that going in (to the season) because we’re still trying to push ourselves to be the best because people are going after us,” Hawes said.

But Hawes said the Hornets do understand that other teams will take their best shots at them, so she and her teammates have to work hard.

“We basically have a target on our back, and we know we have to fight for it,” Hawes said. “It’s not always going to be easy.”

Coach Rob Ploof is confident in both of his teams.

“We are very deep, lots of talent,” Ploof said. “Our JV team will be good as most varsity teams.”

Ploof believes his team has no weaknesses.

“We have talent, experience,” Ploof said, “and we will be ready for every competition.”
