Dear Best Friend,

Several years ago I walked into the Third Degree Burns band room with my guitar on my shoulder and my Doctor Who shirt on, and you sat at the drums and complimented me on my shirt saying how much you loved Doctor Who.

That’s when I knew we had to be friends.

We got along so easily. You were easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable and confident to be myself around you.

Fun-filled memories were attached to every moment we had together. From you trying to teach me how to flip and twirl drumsticks, to our trip to Grand Haven for band.

When you told me you were moving to Florida my heart completely sank. I didn’t want us to forget about each other or not talk. It was strange not seeing you every week and not playing concerts with you over the summers.

Thankfully you were just a text away. Our conversations, even over the phone, were just as interesting as in person. You always knew the right thing to say to me.

When I broke my ankle in May I was feeling really down. My mom and friends helped a lot, but since they had school and work to also deal with, I started feeling pretty lonely during the days.

You texted me every day. You checked up on me, joked with me, and kept my spirits high. Thank God you were home schooled. I don’t know what I would have done without you.

You amaze me with how well you listen, even to the smallest of details.

I remember we had talked about “The Bridge to Terabithia” and how the movie made us cry. You asked if I had ever read the book and I said no. A couple weeks later, after that conversation had completely slipped my mind, I got a package in the mail from you. It was the book.

You are beautiful inside and out. You always see the best in people and have nothing but kind words.

Not to mention how much you make me laugh. I remember when I did your eyeliner for the first time. You loved it so much you tried to sleep in it so you could save it for the next day — that plan didn’t work out so well.

Your laugh and smile is so contagious, you constantly had me dying of laughter.

I miss you every day. I can’t wait to see you again and have that Harry Potter marathon we promised to have.

I remember all of these memories I have made with you.

I remember all the plans we made that we still have yet to do. And because of these cherished moments with you, I know that you will always be my best friend no matter how far away you are.
